Zombie Targets is a company that design and manufacture specialist archery targets. The company was created when a group of archery enthusiasts were looking to setup a themed archery shoot. Initially, they were in search of buying a customisable archery target that would be suitable for their events. Finding a suitable zombie target that met the criteria proved challenging, so the company took it upon themselves to design and manufacture their own specialist targets. This entailed testing suitable materials and making several prototypes to ensure the chosen product met with their exact requirement. The finished product needed to be made from a polyurethane foam and possess self-sealing properties so that when arrows are removed from the target material, the target can be used again and again as the foam will return to its original shape. Also, durability and flexibility were key factors, so that the targets can withstand the numerous shots targeted upon them.

Alchemie were able to assist the company to achieve its goal with the development of a bespoke two component polyurethane foam system that can re-seal itself. The material absorbs the arrow impact, and once removed, morphs back to its previous state. This allows the targets to be reused, time and time again. When the material is mixed together, it gives a medium density, soft, elastomeric foam. The foam is self-skinning, durable and has excellent physical properties. Typical free rise density is between 140 – 180 kgm-3, however the foam can be over packed in the mould to give higher densities of up to 500 kgm-3. The final hardness of the foam can be adjusted by small adjustments to the mixing ratio. The product can also be pigmented.
